Salonika (also known as Thessaloniki or Tesalonika) is a port located in northeastern Greece. Although evidence is scarce,
it is believed that the first Jews to settle in Salonika had come from Alexandria in 140 BCE. Several sources give evidence of the existence and growth of the Jewish community during the Hellenistic and Roman periods and it is known that the apostle Paul preached for three consecutive Sabbaths in the synagogue of Salonika.
