Sainte-Chapelle

Holiday Resolution


Sainte-Chapelle (Holy Chapel) is established by King Louis IX and located in the Île de la Cité. The cathedral was designed to house relics
and treasures of the crown. Some relics including the Crown of Thorns, King Loius IX was purchased from the Byzantine emperor. Crown of Thorns is now stored in Notre Dame Cathedral is located very close to the Sainte-Chapelle church.

Gothic church has more than 1000 beautiful stained glass paintings depicting religious scenes. Rose window depicting Revelation and the upper chapel windows depict scenes from the Old and New Testament. Overall stained glass paintings cover an area of  600 square meters (6458 sq ft) and a large percentage of them are still original 13th century paintings. Top chapel reserved for the royal family while the lower chapel is for the masses. Below the chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Sainte-Chapelle spire is 74 meters (245ft) and rebuilt 4 times.
