Copenhagen (Danish : København) is the capital of Denmark. The name is derived from the word Købmandshavn,
which means "merchant harbor". Copenhagen is situated on the east coast of the island (Sjælland) Sont riverside. In 2003 the city had a population of 501 285 inhabitants, but overall in Copenhagen Kingdom living area of approximately 1.8 million people.

The city was founded in approximately 1000 by Svend Tveskæ.

Since the mid-2000s, it was linked with the Swedish state through Oresund Bridge along 18 kilometers.

It is located on the east coast of Sjælland and extends into parts of Amager. A number of bridges and tunnels that connect with amagerske Zealand. In the city center of Copenhagen is the Danish government as parliament, the royal family, the Supreme Court and the central government.

A tourist attraction is the famous Little Mermaid statue located at the port.

In addition to the state capital, Copenhagen also serves as the cultural center of Denmark and Scandinavia. Since the late 1990s, Copenhagen has undergone a transformation from a small Scandinavian town to a metropolitan city of international scope in the league of cities like Barcelona and Amsterdam. This is due to massive investments in infrastructure as well as culture and a wave of new successful Danish architects, designers and chefs.
