Stockholm is the capital as well is the largest city in Sweden. The city is the seat of national government of Sweden, the Riksdag (parliament),
and the official residence of the king of Sweden, as well as its prime minister. Since 1980, the king stayed at Drottningholm Palace outside of Stockholm and uses the Royal Palace Stockholm as a workplace and official residence. In 2009, the Stockholm metropolitan area inhabited by about 22% of the Swedish population, and contribute as much as 28 % of the total gross domestic product ( gross domestic product ). Stockholm is the most populous city in Sweden with a population of 829 417 people in municipality (2009 ), 1.25 million in its urban area (2005), and approximately 2 million people in its metropolitan area. The city has an area of 188 km².
